Sep 8th: Pre-Night Gathering and SeaTac Hotel

Late afternoon departure to our pre-night hotel near Sea-Tac. Gather at Happy Hour and get to know your fellow Explorers. Learn more about your adventure as you meet with your Tour Manager. (S)

Sep 9th: Early AM Flight, Lake Michigan, Old Lighthouse Museum, and Amish Home Thresher Dinner

Fly direct on Alaska Airlines to Chicago O’Hare, where we will board our company bus and travel along the Lake Michigan shoreline to the Old Lighthouse Museum with seven rooms of Great Lakes maritime history. Just a short stroll away is the lighthouse itself. Built in 1904, it is the only public operating lighthouse in Indiana. The elevated walkway, known as the “catwalk,” was used by lighthouse keepers for 29 years to access the light tower. Check into our hotel for a two-night stay before heading to our Amish family hosts for a traditional Threshers dinner served family style. (B, D)

Sep 10th: Famous Flea Market and Antique Auction, Guided Amish Countryside Tour, and "The Rise and Fall of Miss Fannie’s Biscuits" Dinner Show

This morning, explore nearly 700 open-air booths on 40 acres at the Midwest’s largest flea market! Find bargains on home décor, clothing, produce, plants, tools, crafts, books, and everything imaginable. Move from ring to ring, catching the best antiques, primitives, art, glassware, pottery, tools, estate items, and books as six to ten auctioneers simultaneously sell inside the Shipshewana Antique Building. There are also food vendors (including amazing fried hand pies). If you’re looking for artisan-made products, Amish cottage shops, quilts, and quilting supplies — Shipshewana has plenty!

This afternoon, a local step-on guide joins us on the bus to share the Amish culture while viewing Quilt Gardens and local crafters. Our show starts at the Blue Gate Theater at 4:00 p.m. After the show, join us for their dinner buffet featuring Blue Gate fried chicken, slow-cooked roast beef, and other homestyle Amish entrées. (B, D)

Sep 11th: Lehman Hardware, Warther Famous Carvings, Button House, and Ohio Amish

Our next 24 hours will include local food and culture at many unique stops. You won’t want to miss tasting your way through one of the famous cheese huts or strolling downtown Berlin’s shops.

What started as a small hardware store serving the local Amish has grown into something much bigger than founder Jay Lehman ever dreamed. Gathering four pre-Civil War era buildings under one soaring roof, it’s a place to embrace the past and reminisce through thousands of products — all while browsing Jay’s antique collection throughout the store. The full shopping experience is nearly a quarter-mile long!

Born in 1885 to Swiss immigrant parents, Ernest “Mooney” Warther began his carving legacy at the age of five. His legacy left over 100 intricate pieces that will amaze and delight you. Explore the Warther family residence, Swiss-styled gardens, historic “Calico Ditch,” three-acre park, and Frieda Warther’s collection of over 73,000 buttons. This evening, get ready to laugh out loud at the "All Quacked Up" Comedy Show. The American Bus Association named The Amish Country Theater as one of their favorite things to do in all of North America! (B)

Sep 12th: Roscoe Historical Village, Erie and Ohio Horse-Drawn Canal Boat

Roscoe Village is an idyllic painting that comes to life. Experience life along the Ohio and Erie Canal with a fascinating tour that brings history to life. During your visit, explore restored homes and businesses now filled with museums and shops. Check out the collections of the Johnson-Humerick Museum and finish the day with a relaxing horse-drawn canal boat ride — a highlight of any trip! (B)

Sep 13th: Frank Lloyd Wright Fallingwater and the Duquesne Incline Cable Car

Perched on a rock above a gushing waterfall, Fallingwater was built for a Pittsburgh family by architect Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1930s, ingeniously designed to blend harmoniously into the tranquil and beautiful surroundings. Scale Mount Washington on the Duquesne Incline, a 19th-century cable car, for a fun ride with breathtaking views. The 400-foot incline provides spectacular views of the Pittsburgh skyline and the city’s three rivers. Continue to our hotel in Upstate New York. (B)

Sep 14th: Niagara Falls, Erie Canal Locks Cruise, and Historic Hotel of America

Travel along Lake Erie through the vineyards and Welch’s Concord grape country to the American side of Niagara Falls. You’ll get up-close views of the American Falls during our stop at the National Park. For the best view of the Horseshoe Falls without entering Canada, we’ll take a ride on the Maid of the Mist. This Niagara Falls boat ride leaves from the American side to sail to the base of the falls, offering fantastic views along the way. Trust me, you get closer than you’d expect! This trip is a classic; it’s been running since 1848. It’s amazing to look up at Horseshoe Falls and feel the mist on your face. Take a lunch break before boarding our next vessel for a narrated cruise on the Erie Canal. It is the 200th birthday of the canal, and you’ll appreciate the historical narration and hearing the captain warn “Low bridge, everybody down” along the way and the transit of two of the locks. Overnight in Utica at a designated Historic Hotel of America. It was originally opened as the Hotel Utica in 1912 and is a member of Historic Hotels of America. The hotel was designed by the architectural firm Esenwein & Johnson of Buffalo and features an ornate lobby.

Sep 15th: Empire State Capitol Tour and Dining at the Historic Publick House Inn

Take a docent-guided tour of the stunning New York State Capitol. Visit the Million Dollar Staircase and understand why people call it the most beautiful state capitol in the country. This elaborately carved stone building was constructed between 1867 and 1899, with the assistance of five different architects. You will be treated to a comprehensive history of the building, including ghost stories, architectural details, notable inhabitants, and lesser-known facts. Exploration will host a late lunch at The Publick House Historic Inn in Sturbridge, MA. It offers traditional New England dining in a historic setting and has an onsite bakery to grab snacks for your return flight back to Seattle, nonstop on Alaska Airlines. We’ll land at 10:00 p.m. and return you to your original departure locations. (L)
