This is considered one of the top ten things to do in Seattle. Chihuly attended the University of Wisconsin’s glass program—the first such program in the U.S.—as well as the Rhode Island School of Design. He later honed his craft in the glass studios of Venice. Over the years, he has developed glass programs, taught at universities, and has been a leader in the development of glass as a fine art. His work is now found in over 200 museums and galleries around the world.
The Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum consists of eight galleries (if you bring a smartphone, you can enjoy a free audio tour), a 40-foot-high glass conservatory—the perfect backdrop for a 100-foot-long suspended sculpture—and a lush garden abounding in magical glass plants where you can wander the meandering paths to view the stunning art throughout.
Then ride up to the top of the Space Needle to experience two entirely new levels of thrills! From an all-glass floor on the lower level to floor-to-ceiling glass on the upper level, there are endless opportunities to send friends and family selfies.
In between, enjoy lunch at one of the two cafes at the glass museum or stroll over to the Armory, where local Seattle chefs showcase their cuisine alongside casual lunch favorites. We love the excellent seafood at Matt's Fish Basket (GIANT shrimp!) and the East Coast–inspired sandwiches at Mike's. Plus, the Glass Museum Café has wonderful options too.
