Some Like it Hot was initially written as a fun musical movie for Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon. The show is amusing, with enough belly laughs to keep you genuinely happy, and the score is jumpy and bumpy and won’t make you grumpy. Set in Chicago when Prohibition has everyone thirsty for a little excitement, this classic is a “glorious, big, high-kicking” story of two musicians forced to flee the Windy City after witnessing a mob hit. With gangsters hot on their heels, they catch a cross-country train for the life-chasing, life-changing trip of a lifetime. And what a trip it is!
The costumes are truly beautiful and the sets lovely to look at, both winning Tony Awards. SOME LIKE IT HOT is “A Super-Sized, All-Out Song-And-Dance Spectacular!” says The New York Times. No wonder everyone calls it “a tap-dancing, razzle-dazzling embrace of everything you love about musical theater.” Be sure to have a big breakfast before boarding the bus, as for this show, we will be stopping for a no host early dinner on the way home.
